Common questions

Still unsure about something? Ask us directly.

Do you work with clients outside Nebraska?

Yes. We are a remote firm and work with clients across the country. Everything can be handled through the client portal, and we file in multiple states.

How much will my return cost?

Our starting prices are listed on the Services & Pricing page, and we quote a flat fee in writing before any work begins. The price does not change unless the scope does.

When should I get my documents to you?

For an April filing, we ask for a complete package by mid-March. If there isn't enough time to complete the return properly, we may recommend filing an extension. An extension gives you additional time to file, but tax owed is generally still due by the original deadline.

What if I get a letter from the IRS?

Send it to us before you respond. We'll review the notice, explain what it means, and tell you what needs to be done. If additional work or representation is required, we'll explain the scope and fee before proceeding.

Does an extension mean I can pay later?

No. An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. Any tax owed is generally still due by the original deadline. We can help estimate the amount due and plan the payment so you can minimize penalties and interest.

Do I need to make quarterly estimated payments?

It depends on your income, withholding, and tax situation. Self-employed individuals and business owners often need estimated payments, as can people with significant investment or rental income. We calculate the amounts when applicable and provide a payment schedule.

Should my LLC elect S-corporation status?

It depends on your profit, payroll, and how you take money out of the business. It saves some owners real money and costs others more in filings. We run the numbers before recommending it.

How long should I keep my tax records?

Three years is a general rule for many tax records, but some situations require longer. Keep property and basis records until the applicable period has passed after you dispose of the property, and keep records longer when special rules apply. Business employment tax records generally should be kept for at least four years.

Can you file returns for previous years?

Yes. We regularly help clients catch up on unfiled returns and amend past ones. Refunds generally have a three-year window, so it is worth looking sooner than later.

Will I actually be able to reach a CPA?

Yes. There are two of us, and you work directly with a partner. Quick questions during the year are part of the relationship, not a separate bill.

What happens after I send my documents?

We prepare your return, a second partner reviews it, and then we send a short video walking you through the result before anything is filed.

Do you handle trust and estate returns?

Yes. We prepare fiduciary returns and coordinate with attorneys and advisors on trust and estate planning matters.

Do I have to become a client to get a price?

No. Tell us about your situation and, when available, securely provide your prior-year return. We'll review the information and send a written flat-fee quote. Nothing is billed and no engagement begins until you approve the quote.
